VINEYARDS Sevenhill, Cook vineyard, vines 35 yo. Watervale, Churinga Vineyard, vines approx. 50 yo.

HARVEST The summer of 2017/18 was unforgiving,  several above 40-degree days which  hit our vineyards especially hard. The first of three Syrah picks kicked off on the 26/2 from the Cook Sevenhill Vineyard, and concluded with another pick in early March, with a small parcel added from the Watervale Churinga vineyard on the 10/3. Here crops were down significantly, providing only around 18HL/Ha, well below long term average of about 30HL/Ha.

VINIFICATION About half was untouched on stalks for a month rior to being basket pressed to new and old  puncheon and old hogsheads, seeing about 15% new oak. The balance was gently foot trod every few days for about 4-8 weeks before seeing the basket press into aged hogheads. Final blend is approx  30% carbon maceration, and 60% whole bunch. No fining.

TASTING NOTE A delicious follow on to the 2017 vintage. The same lifted yet dense smoky, garrigue laden nose that we know, love and drank. The 30% carbonic maceration delivers bright, punchy acidity which wraps itself around a dark, somewhat intense core of cool, juicy blackberry fruit, peppered with hints of anise and clove. New world Syrah we heart you.

Drink 2019 -2025. Vegan friendly.
